Excavator & Machinery Ramp Length Guide
Selecting the correct ramp length is important for safe loading and unloading of your machinery. As a general guide, we recommend choosing a ramp length that provides a loading angle between 18° and 21°.
A lower loading angle generally makes loading easier, improves traction & reduces the chance of machines underside contact.
Please note: This is a guide only.
Every machine has different loading capabilities depending on factors such as wheelbase, track length, ground clearance, weight distribution, tyre or track type, attachment weight, and the manufacturer’s recommendations. Always follow your machine manufacturer’s operating instructions.
Recommended Ramp Length Guide (18°–22° Loading Angle)
Ramp Length Recommended Loading Height
- 2.0 metres - up to 700 mm
- 2.5 metres - up to 850 mm
- 3.0 metres - up to 1 metre
- 3.3 metres - up to 1.15 metres
- 3.6 metres - up to 1.25 metres
- 3.9 metres - up to 1.35 metres
- 4.1 metres - up to 1.45 metres

Curved Mower Ramp Length Guide
Selecting the correct loading ramp length is important for safe loading and unloading. A longer ramp provides a gentler loading angle, helping to reduce the chance of your mower's deck contacting the trailer or tray during loading.
This guide is intended as a general recommendation only.
Every mower and vehicle combination is different. Factors such as mower wheelbase, deck design, ground clearance, tyre size, trailer height and vehicle loading capacity will affect the most suitable ramp length. Always refer to your equipment manufacturer's recommendations and ensure your loading setup is safe before use.
2 metres & 2.3 metres Low loading heights Ideal for low trailers, approximately 400 mm to 550 mm high
2.5 metres Low to medium loading heights A versatile option for most standard trailers and lower ute trays, approximately 500 mm to 750 mm high
3 metres Higher loading heights Recommended for higher 4WD ute trays & trailers, approximately 700 mm to 1000 mm high
3.5 metres Higher loading heights
Recommended for higher 4WD ute trays & trailers, approximately 800 mm to 1200 mm high
Why Choose Curved Mower Ramps?
Whipps curved mower ramps are specifically designed to reduce the likelihood of mower decks fouling or scraping at the transition between the ramp and trailer. The curved profile creates a smoother loading path, making them ideal for ride-on and zero-turn mowers with low ground clearance.

Loading Ramps - User Information & Safety Instructions
⚠️ WARNING
- Ramps must be securely pinned or fastened to the vehicle, trailer, or loading surface before use.
- Never exceed the rated capacity of the ramps.
- Never exceed the load capacity of the vehicle, trailer, or loading surface.
- Always use extreme caution when loading or unloading.
- Only load and unload on a stable, level surface from flat ground.
- Ensure no person is in the path of the vehicle or equipment during loading or unloading.
- Keep all bystanders well clear at all times.
- Do not step between rungs.
- Use extra caution in wet conditions, as ramp surfaces will have reduced traction.
- Use of these ramps while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any impairing substance is strictly prohibited.
- Do not use ramps as a jump, scaffold, bridge, or ladder.
- To reduce the risk of injury, the use of suitable personal protective equipment is strongly recommended. Leather riggers gloves should always be worn when handling loading ramps.
LOADING
- Secure the ramps to the vehicle or trailer prior to use.
- Position the vehicle square and in line with the ramps.
- Roll or drive the equipment slowly and steadily up the ramps.
- Ensure wheels or tracks remain centred on the ramps at all times.
- Take extra care in wet or slippery conditions to prevent tyre or track slippage.
- Do not stop on the ramps during loading.
UNLOADING
- Secure and position the ramps as described above, directly behind the rear wheels or tracks.
- Roll or drive the equipment slowly and steadily down the ramps.
- Keep wheels or tracks centred on the ramps at all times.
- Do not stop on the ramps during unloading.
MAINTENANCE
- It is the user’s responsibility to inspect the ramps and all components before every use.
- Do not use damaged ramps or components under any circumstances.
- Maintain ramps with regular cleaning to remove dirt, debris, and contaminants that may affect traction or performance.
- Lubricate hinge points on folding ramps frequently
